1. Data Collection & Storage
Trekka Outdoors is committed to protecting your privacy. All data collected by the app — including activity tracking data, GPS locations, health metrics, routes, maps, and user preferences — is stored on your device using Apple's built-in storage systems.
Activity data syncs via Apple CloudKit/HealthKit when enabled. No data is transmitted to third-party services.
2. Local Storage
All personal information, activities, routes, and health data are stored locally on your device. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it. The app uses:
- UserDefaults for app settings and preferences
- Core Data / local file storage for activities and routes
- Apple HealthKit for health data integration (optional, with your permission)
3. HealthKit Integration
Trekka integrates with Apple HealthKit to:
- Read heart rate and other health metrics during workouts
- Write workout data to Apple Health
- Contribute to your Fitness rings and health records
HealthKit integration is optional and requires your explicit permission. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.
4. Location Data
Trekka requires location access to:
- Track your GPS position during activities
- Display your location on maps
- Calculate distances, routes, and elevation
- Provide turn-by-turn navigation for imported GPX routes
Location data is only used while actively tracking an activity or viewing maps. All location data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to external servers.
Precise GPS (Optional)
- On supported devices, you can enable Precise GPS for maximum tracking accuracy
- Uses the highest accuracy mode available (kCLLocationAccuracyBestForNavigation)
- Provides the most accurate location data but may use more battery
- Configurable in the app's workout settings (both iOS and watchOS)
- Setting is stored locally and never shared
Background Location
- The app uses HealthKit workout sessions to continue tracking when the display is off
- Ensures continuous GPS tracking during activities even when your wrist is down
- Background location is only active during workout sessions
- Location tracking stops automatically when you end the activity
GPX Route Navigation
- When navigating imported GPX routes, the app calculates your position relative to the route
- Includes distance/elevation remaining, time to finish, and off-course detection
- All navigation calculations are performed locally on your device
- Route data is stored locally and never transmitted
You can control location permissions in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
5. Data Syncing & Cloud Integration
Trekka stores all your data locally on your device by default. Activity data can optionally sync to Apple CloudKit and HealthKit when you enable these features in the app settings.
No third-party analytics, databases, or tracking services are used. Your data is never transmitted to external services beyond Apple's own infrastructure. iCloud sync (if enabled) uses Apple's secure, encrypted infrastructure and is fully under your control.
6. Data Export
You have full control over your data. Export all your activities and routes at any time from the app's Settings. This allows you to back up your data or transfer it to another device.
7. Data Deletion
You can delete your data at any time:
- Individual activities can be deleted from the activity list
- All data can be cleared from Settings
- Deleting the app removes all local data (unless you have iCloud sync enabled)
8. Third-Party Services
Trekka does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app operates entirely independently without sending any data to external services.
9. Children's Privacy
Trekka is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected here with an updated date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
